Testing times for learner drivers

Shane Reynolds  Learner drivers around the county were trying valiantly in the past week to pass their driving tests – and while many were successful, others will have to wait for another opportunity to pass their test as the new legislation concerning learner drivers on our roads means that they can not drive on their own.   The new law took effect on Tuesday and means that learner drivers are no longer permitted to drive their vehicles without a full-license holder present in the car. Drivers must hold a learner permit for six months before they can be approved for a test.   It will affect up to 92,000 people nationwide and aims to bring Ireland in line with countries that are considered to have the safest roads in the world, countries such as the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and the United Kingdom.
