Telethon countdown is on!

The countdown is on for Telethon 2007. This year’s event in Co. Roscommon was launched on Monday last at an event in The Square, Roscommon. Organisers hope that this year’s event will raise €70,000 in the county and everyone should take note – all the funds raised in Co. Roscommon will be spent in the county. Aidan Dempsey and Susan Sanderson are two of the local organisers of this year’s event, which takes place on October 26 th and Orla Thornton is the County Co-ordinator. RTÉ TV cameras will be in Roscommon on September 26 th from 9 am to 9 pm to film material on Roscommon’s Telethon plans. A People in Need office has also been opened in Stonecourt and organisers want to hear from people from all over the county who have an idea how to raise funds for this year’s event. ‘We want people to let us know if they want to do an event, if they have any good fundraising idea. We will send out an information packs and if necessary, provide t-shirts and balloons. Remember, what’s raised in Roscommon stays in Roscommon,’ said Susan Sanderson. Previous recipients of the People in Need grants present at the launch included County Roscommon Support Group for People with Disabilities, Slatta Community Playgroup, Vita House Family Centre and Gleann Aoibhinn Brothers of Charity. All of these groups received grants from the last Telethon that took place in 2004 and benefited greatly from the fundraising efforts of the people in the county.
