Taste of the Lakelands returns this weekend

Lanesborough & Ballyleague to host popular food fair

The Taste of the Lakelands Food Fair returns to Lanesborough/Ballyleague this Saturday and Sunday with special guests including celebrity chefs Rachel Allen and Gary O’Hanlon.

Now in its second year, Taste of the Lakelands promises to be another memorable event showcasing the very best food and drink the midlands region has to offer.

Gary O’Hanlon, head chef of the award-winning Viewmount House, is the food ambassador for the festival and he says it’s all about local producers.

“This is all about promoting our own. The midlands region can boast of some of the finest food producers in the country but it’s all a well-kept secret. James and Mary Casey in Longford, for example, bake brown bread to die for – nobody does it better – and we aim to give excellent producers like the Caseys a new shop window at Taste of the Lakelands.”

Festival Director, Helen Feeney, meanwhile, is hoping for an even bigger attendance at this year’s festival.

“The food festival attracted 6,000 people on just one day last year so with Rachel Allen, Gary O’Hanlon, Kevin Dundon and so many free food giveaways this year, we hope to attract up to 10,000 people and once again, admission is free!”

This year’s show will include free food giveaways from Green Isle, Goodfella’s Pizza, HB Ice-Cream, Lyons’ Tea and many more with all donations going to the new Pieta House Centre which has recently opened in Athlone.

Thanks to the support of Department of Agriculture CEDRA funds, Taste of the Lakelands is now a new destination brand for the midlands region and promises to attract big crowds to the lake side communities of Lanesborough and Ballyleague this weekend.
