Taoiseach Micheál Martin has acknowledged concerns over the State’s growing reliance on corporation tax receipts after another significant increase in August.
Corporation tax generated €2.8 billion during the month, approximately one-third more than during August last year.
The Taoiseach said the scale of receipts remains a concern because a significant proportion could prove to be temporary or windfall revenue which may not continue indefinitely.
Mr Martin also pointed to the considerable increase in public expenditure since 2020.
Corporation tax, much of which is generated by a relatively small number of large multinational companies, has become an increasingly important source of revenue for the Exchequer in recent years.
The Government has repeatedly warned against using potentially temporary corporation-tax receipts to permanently fund ongoing expenditure.
The latest figures come as preparations continue for Budget 2027 next month.
