John Tobin enjoyed a very successful fundraiser at the Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe on Monday night. Just over 300 supporters enjoyed ‘John’s dance with the Stars’ which featured Eunice Moran as MC and performers such as Gerry Guthrie and Johnny Brady among others.
John will take on Croagh Patrick this Saturday (September 10th) at 8.30 am. The Williamstown native will ascend the mountain in a custom made wheelchair known as ‘John’s Dream Machine’. Supporters are encouraged to come out and support John as he begins the climb on Saturday morning.
The specially adapted wheelchair is very unique. It’s innovative and has been designed by a clever engineer who wishes to remain anonymous. The Dream Machine is fitted with shock absorbers and has a roll cage and will keep John upright due to its clever design.
More that twenty volunteers and local guides will assist John as he attempts the climb on Saturday. The team will ascend Croagh Patrick via a private route thanks to local landowners. This means that only team members, who will be assisted by paramedics, will be able to ascend with John on the day. People can, however, join John at the top of the mountain by taking the more traditional route but they do so at their own risk.
Following a successful ascent and descent of Croagh Patrick, it is hoped to give John a special homecoming so supporters are reminded to follow the Facebook page for updates.
Come and support John as he attempts something which has never been done before this Saturday.
