An official press launch took place in Ballinaheglish last Friday to kick off the 2024 County Roscommon Ploughing Championships, which are being held this year on Sunday, 5th of May.

The event, which was held in Sean McDermott’s Bar and Lounge, was a great success, being attended by a number of local business and media representatives, as well as several members of the community. This year marks the 30th anniversary for the county’s ploughing association, and this impressive milestone was highlighted during the launch.

As part of the event, Joe Egan presented the new ‘Kenagh Memorial Cup’ (in memory of his father, Eamon Egan) to this year’s Roscommon Ploughing Championship host, Paddy Beirne, ahead of the big day. The launch also saw the Roscommon Ploughing Association present each of the previous host owners with a commemorative plaque to acknowledge their support over the years.

Roscommon Ploughing Association PRO Dillon Beirne delivered a speech on the night, during which he thanked all for their support, and spoke briefly about the history of Roscommon ploughing and what’s in store this year’s event.

Mr Beirne said that in addition to the sponsors, local businesses, and members of the community who support the event, he wished to sincerely thank Sean McDermott’s Bar and Lounge for hosting the launch and also media representatives of the Roscommon People and Roscommon Herald who were present.

The association have also expressed their appreciation to Molloy’s Bakery in Roscommon town for donating such beautiful and tasty cakes and buns for the night.

An absolutely brilliant night was had by all in attendance, and the association would like to thank all who attended.
