Strokestown Area Fianna Fail Cllr. Eugene Murphy has welcomed the decision of Roscommon Co. Council to grant planning permission for a new health centre for the Strokestown area. The centre will cost in the region of €1.5 million. Cllr. Murphy said that the people of the area have been waiting for this development for some years. He said funding was granted for this development over three years ago by the then Minister for Health Micheal Martin. Cllr . Murphy also said that staff at the present centre had worked in pretty cramped conditions for some time, and the brand new facility would not only have suitable facilities for staff and the general public but would also have many health services available to the general public. Cllr. Murphy said he would be vigorously pursuing the HSE to commence this development as soon as possible, and he also thanked Deputy Michael Finneran and John Ellis for their support for the project. Cllr Eugene Murphy has welcomed the decision by Roscommon Co.Council to grant planning permission for an extension to Whitehall National School.The Dept of Education has already granted funding of almost half a million euro for the project.Cllr Murphy said the Planning Authority had open and frank discussion with the Board of Management,and difficulties that existed there were overcome,with everyone happy with the outcome.Cllr.Murphy said that the school extension was very badly needed because of the increase in population in the area.He hoped the project could get up and running as quickly as possible.Cllr Murphy acknowledged the role of Deputy Finneran and John Ellis in helping to sort out the planning matter and the funding matter.
