Strokestown clinched a dramatic 3-12 to 2-13 victory against Fuerty in a thrilling Ward Brothers IFC semi-final in Ballyforan on Sunday, earning a place in the final against Eire Og.
A crucial two-pointer from substitute Shane McGinley in injury time proved the decisive score in a tightly contested match. Despite playing against the wind in the first half, Strokestown took an early lead with a goal from Diarmuid McGann, building a four-point advantage. Fuerty responded before halftime, with a goal from Cian Murray and a two-pointer from Cormac Lavin giving them a 1-7 to 1-5 lead at the break.
Strokestown surged ahead in the second half, with goals from Mikey Kavanagh and Kevin Finn putting them seven points up by the 40th minute. Fuerty mounted a late comeback, sparked by a brilliant goal from Eoin Ward in the 45th minute, but McGinley’s late strike secured the win for Strokestown.
