Stritchly come golfing in Carrick

Rory McIlroy’s masterclass at the K Club wasn’t the only impressive performance on the golf course last weekend as players across Roscommon dodged the showers and got in on the act.

Firstly this week we go to Carrick-on-Shannon where the Senior Inter-Club team had a fine 5-0 win over Ballaghaderreen last Wednesday. The Ladies Minor Cup team beat Roscommon 3-2 last Thursday.

Elsewhere, it was Stritch for the first time on the back nine as Carmel Stritch enjoyed her first win of the season taking the Grafters Hair Studio Stableford with 35 points. Ann Keenan and Attracta O’Connor were second and third respectively.

In Athlone, the AWGS competition last Thursday was won by T. Dolan with 32 points. The Ladies Australian Spoons Foursomes was scooped by Siobhan McGrath and Chaba Carney with 37 points.

Over in Roscommon last week’s men’s competition was won by Seamus Conneally with 40 points while the ladies’ equivalent was won by Joan Hannon with a score of 38. Seamus was a winning name last week as Seamus Mulryan won the seniors competition. In the ladies’ seniors it was all White on the night as Vera was victorious.

Castlerea held a Ladies Open Gala day, which Mary O’Gara from Roscommon Golf Club won. Castlerea golfer Deirdre ‘the hawk’ Hawkshaw swooped in to grab second place. Last week’s ladies competition was won by Kathy Burke with 33 points with Maureen Claffey in 2nd on 32.
