The string section of Roscommon County Youth Orchestra will begin tuition next week and the youth orchestra wants to hear from aspiring young musicians between the age of 12 and 17. The project offers young people the opportunity to avail of instrumental tuition at an affordable cost and to become part of the first countywide Youth Orchestra. With the brass and woodwind sections going from strength to strength in Castlerea and Boyle, the strings section offers another opportunity to become part of the county’s first youth orchestra. From the outset, a core concern with the project was inclusion and equal access, socially and geographically, for all young people throughout the county. As orchestras are divided into four sections – woodwind, brass, strings and percussion, four ensembles will be established in different locations around the county, meeting together at intervals to form the larger Roscommon County Youth Orchestra. The Strings Section will begin tuition on 3rd November. If you are interested in joining, contact the Arts Office on (090) 66 32541 or acarr@roscommoncoco.ie by Tuesday, 30th October. Places are limited but a waiting list will be established.
