Storm Barra leaves almost 2,000 Roscommon homes without power

Almost 2,000 incidences of power outages were reported to have taken place in county Roscommon on Tuesday as a result of Storm Barra.

Storm Barra hit the country in the early hours of Tuesday morning, and continued to cause disruption into Wednesday evening. Almost 60,000 homes and business across Ireland lost power due to the storm, with schools in particularly affected counties being closed and several areas experiencing flooding, damage, and travel disruption.

According to the ESB Network’s powercheck.ie, which gives a live account of power outages in the country and restoration times, almost 2,000 businesses across County Roscommon lost power on Tuesday, with Boyle experiencing the most outages (over 1,300) and further outages in areas such as Cloonfad, Castlerea, and Roscommon town (over 400).

Disruptions to power service continued overnight for some home and business owners, with restoration work being undertaken on Wednesday to repair the damage done by Storm Barra.
