Seamus Duke casts an expert eye over the weekend fixtures head of round two of the Callington Ltd Intermediate Football Championship…
Group A
Éire Óg and Shannon Gaels both won in round one of the Callington Ltd Intermediate Football Championship and they clash in Loughglynn this Friday evening. The Gaels were very happy with their win in the local derby against Kilmore in round one and the pressure is off them to a certain extent now. But at home, Éire Óg should be too strong.
Kilmore will now be looking over their shoulders and their trip to Kiltoom on Sunday to take on St Brigids will not be an easy one. Brigid’s have plenty of good young players and this one could end in a draw.
Group B
St Aidan’s went down badly to Fuerty in the opening round and they will be hoping for a better display when they welcome St Croan’s to Ballyforan on Saturday afternoon. Croan’s were impressive against Kilbride and they will have one eye on the title this year. The Ballintubber/Ballymoe side should maintain their 100 per cent record this weekend.
Kilbride entertain Fuerty on Saturday in what looks like a fairly straightforward task for the visitors, who looked back to their best in the first round against St Aidan’s.
Group C
Elphin needed Fintan Cregg to come on and help them over the line against Pádraig Pearses in round one, and their clash with Castlerea on Saturday is definitely the ‘Game of the Weekend’ in the IFC. Both these teams will be eyeing up a title charge. Castlerea at their best might just edge it.
Creggs will be hoping to put a poor performance in round one behind them when they face Pádraig Pearses in Ballyforan on Sunday. This will be a very competitive match and Creggs might just have enough to score a badly needed win.
