Steps you can take now to ensure an active lifestyle as you age

Olivia Prendergast (left) in Just Go Fitness in Castlerea on the importance of looking after our bodies…

As we age, our bodies go through a lot of changes, both physically and mentally. Our bone density and muscle mass decrease, leaving us more prone to brittle bone disease and osteoporosis.

Anyone that knows me knows I’m independent and want to keep my independence into my elderly years, that I want to be able to sit down and stand up unaided. I want to be able to get in and out of bed unaided. So I know I have to put the work in now to ensure a better quality of life for myself in my retirement.

I need to bulletproof my body now, by strengthening my bones and increasing my muscle mass, to enable me to lead an active lifestyle later on.
