A Status Orange wind warning has been issued for County Roscommon for this evening as Storm Isha makes landfall.
The warning, which has been issued for the entire country, comes into effect at 5 pm and is valid until 2 am on Monday morning.
Met Éireann says that very strong southwest winds with severe and damaging gusts are to be expected and motorists are being advised to expect some very difficult travelling conditions with a potential of fallen trees and damage to power lines.
Local councillor Paschal Fitzmaurice took to social media yesterday evening urging people to stay indoors after 5pm this evening if possible.
The Orange warning is preceded by a yellow wind warning for the entire country which takes effect from 11 am this morning.
