St Dominic’s withstood a late rally from Oran to claim the Dermot Hughes Cars Roscommon Senior Camogie title by the narrowest of margins in a tense final, which ended in a welter of excitement at Ballyforan on Saturday.
The final score was St. Dominic’s 1-7, Oran 2-3. The first half was a disappointing affair, with defences on top, and St. Dominic’s went into the break leading 0-2 to 0-1.
However, there was far more excitement on the resumption. St Dominic’s, with Niamh Watson, Aimee O’Connor, and Lilly Murray outstanding, went into a 0-5 to 0-1 lead by the 47th minute.
A brace of Hazel Kelly points narrowed the gap, but the issue looked to have been settled when Lilly Murray’s free in the 52nd minute went all the way to the Oran net. However, two minutes later, Oran substitute Grainne Whyte flicked the ball to the St. Dominic’s net.
Points from Michaela Lohan and another Lilly Murray free looked to have restored St. Dominic’s advantage.
However, another Oran goal from Grainne Whyte in injury time narrowed the gap to one, but St. Dominic’s hung on to win the title for the first time since 2022.
St Dominic’s Niamh Watson was named the deserved Player of the Match afterwards.
