Spring Clean thanks

Organisers of this year’s Spring Clean campaign this week thanked all who got involved in the campaign in County Roscommon.             Nationally, almost 400,000 people participated in this year’s National Spring Clean, an increase of approximately 17 percent on the 2006 figure, with over 4,000 clean up events organised around the country.             ‘I’d like to thank all the people from Roscommon who came out to support this year’s National Spring Clean,’ said Patricia Oliver, Chairperson of National Spring Clean. ‘Thousands of people from throughout Roscommon participated in this year’s event and made a real effort to be involved in the campaign.             ‘Although we don’t have a breakdown of the exact figures on a county by county basis yet, I do know that there was an overwhelming response from Roscommon. Primary and secondary schools, sports clubs, residents associations, community groups and individuals from all parts of the county rolled up their sleeves and did their bit to help make Roscommon a cleaner place to live,’ she added.             ‘This is the 8th year of the National Spring Clean and it continues to go from strength to strength. Although we have exceeded all our expectations this year our hope is that we will able to surpass this total again next year. However that will only be possible if we continue to have the support and enthusiasm of all those Roscommon volunteers who participated in this year’s campaign.’
