Eamon Flattley equalized for the visitors, when he followed up a shot that came back off the crossbar. The home side got the first of 2 penalties midway during the first half, when Sean Ryan converted the spot kick, immediately after the resumption, Stephen Finnegan levelled again for Cloonfad, however Dermot Lyons restored the lead, when he preserved and forced the ball past Cloonfad keeper Stephen Finnegan. Sean Ryan blasted home a second penalty to give CP a 4-2 lead, until Stephen Finnegan scored his second goal with 6 minutes left, to leave a nervy finish for the home side in which John Mannion excelled in defence. RAHARA ROVERS FC Rahara A team travelled to Ahascragh on Sunday to play the first round of the FAI Junior Cup. It was nip and tuck for the first half with both sides creating a few chances. The second half saw Rahara piling on the pressure but the Ahascragh defence held firm and forced extra-time. The away side’s superior fitness came through and Barry Nestor scored a screamer to the top corner, to open the scoring in the first period. He then added another 5 minutes from time to crown a man of the match performance. Every player gave it their all on the day and deserved to get through to the next round where they will play away to Tracey Celtic from the Sligo/Leitrim league.  The B team travelled to Kilreekil to play KC Celtic in a Division 3 clash. The home side took the lead just after half time and Rahara then created plenty of chances, one of which was converted by the head of Ronnie McSharry from a Fred Doolan free kick. Simon Moran battled hard for Rahara but in the end Rahara had to settle for the 1-1 draw. Dermot Croghan was man of the match and Alan O’Keeffe and Gerry McNulty in defence generally played well all day. Next Sunday the B team are at home to St. John’s B and the A team are away to St. John’s A. It would be great to see a big crowd.
