The potential of renting out land for the production, storage and distribution of solar power is one of the topics which will be discussed at the SCSI Rural Professional Group’s annual Seminar in Athlone.
Trevor McCarthy of the Rural Professional Group of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland said solar farms could generate substantial revenue streams for farmers but there are issues around them, which need to be considered.
Also to be discussed at the seminar are some changes that were announced in the recent Budget and the continuing impact of low milk prices.
The theme of this year’s seminar is ‘Farming into the Future’. Speakers will include Mairead McGuinness MEP, Eddie Downey, President of the IFA and Justin McCarthy, editor of the Irish Farmers Journal.
Over one hundred rural surveyors from all over the country are due to attend the seminar, which will take place at the Radisson Hotel Athlone on Friday, 13th November.
