Ballinasloe reach quarter finals Ballinasloe Town 3 Cloonfad United 2 Ballinasloe Town are through to the quarter finals of this season’s Umbro-sponsored Connacht Cup, following a hard earned 3-2 victory at home to fellow Roscommon and District league Premier Division side Cloonfad United in Ballinasloe. With fifteen minutes on the clock Cloonfad United took the lead from a corner kick which was not fully cleared by Ballinasloe and Declan Birmingham slammed the loose ball to the Ballinasloe net. Just after half time Cloonfad United doubled their lead when David Kearney broke clear and scored a fine goal. The home side pulled a goal back with sixty-five played. Henry Loughnane won a penalty and Peter Keighery scored from the spot kick. Mark Duffy headed an equaliser at the back post and Darragh Concannon got the winner with eight minutes left on the clock. Glen Celtic 3 Castlerea Celtic 7 Castlerea Celtic kept their hopes of winning the Ruby Oil Premier Division Title alive when they beat a weakened Glen Celtic side 7-3 in Glenamaddy. Celtic’s Mark Mulvihill scored two and Cathal Dinneen, Trevor Kelly, Derek Mulvihill, Pakie O’Brien and Shane Heneghan scored one each for Castlerea Celtic. Glen’s Cathal Dowd scored two and Jason Fannon added a third for the Glenamaddy side. Castlerea Celtic is now in second place, two points behind the leaders Dysart with four games left to play. Kilkerrin United 3 Skyvalley Rovers 1 Kilkerrin United won their second League game of the season when they beat Skyvalley Rovers 3-1 in Kilkerrin. Brian Geraghty for Kilkerrin and David Grehan for Skyvalley Rovers scored in the first half. Brendan Gordon scored from the penalty spot and David Fahy added two more for an improving Kilkerrin United side in the second half. St John’s Athletic 3 Strokestown United 3 League leaders St. John’s Athletic require just one point from their remaining two games to win the Division 1 Championship. They drew 3-3 at home with second placed Strokestown United. The home side came from behind on two occasions before taking a 3-2 lead with Strokestown United getting an equaliser near the end of the game. Keith Reynolds scored two and Tom Gately one for St. John’s Athletic and John Rodgers scored two and John Hagan one for Strokestown United who are six points behind the leaders. Rahara United 2 Ahascragh United 1 Rahara Rovers beat Ahascragh United 2-1 in Rahara. John O’Keeffe gave Rovers the perfect start when he scored after three minutes but United John Devine levelled the game on the half hour. Padraig Keaveney scored the winner for Rahara Rovers ten minutes into the second half. Ericsson FC 1 Cam Celtic 0 Ericsson FC beat Cam Celtic 1-0 in Athlone. Bill Blake scored the only goal of the game to give Ericsson the points. Moylough ’79 3 Ballinasloe Town B 0 Moylough ’79 had a good with over Ballinasloe Town 3-0 in Moylough to ease their relegation worries. ’79’s Stephen Boyle scored two in the first half and Thomas Clancy added a third in the second half for the home side. Manor Utd. v Lough Harps game was postponed. BEÁR AN RÁILLE DIVISION TWO Loughglynn United 7 Lisnamult Celtic 0 League leaders Loughglynn United took a major step towards winning the Beár an Ráille-sponsored Division 2 Championship when they beat second placed Danny Doyle’s Lisnamult Celtic 7-0 in Loughglynn. United leading goal scorer Mark O’Brien got his hat trick in the first half and he added another in the second half. Skyvalley Rovers 0 Roscommon Town 3 A good day for Roscommon Town who beat bottom side Skyvalley Rovers 3-0 in Skyvalley’s home ground. Town’s Thomas Gannon and Damien McGeeney scored in the first half and John Paul O’Gara added a third after the break. Laurencetown 0 Cloonfad United B 1 Cloonfad United moved out of the relegation trouble after beating Laurencetown 1-0 in Laurencetown.
