The Mid-Roscommon Vintage Club launched its third annual Sliabh Bán Harvest Festival last Saturday with the traditional cutting of the oats crop.
The crop was kindly donated by Derek Stuart from Co Longford and his son, ‘Farmer Phil’ Stuart, of YouTube fame.
The oats were harvested using implements and machinery from years gone by, including cutting with scythes, tying sheaves by hand and stooking the crop to dry.
The oats will form part of the festival on September 20th, when they will be threshed on the day.
Organisers say further details on activities and attractions will be announced in the coming weeks, with hopes that this year’s festival will be bigger and better than ever.
