Members of the Roscommon Industrial & Agricultural Show Society made a presentation to Joe Murphy, the president of the show committee, in Hannon’s Hotel, Roscommon town, last Thursday, May 12th, to mark his 90th birthday. Joe celebrated his 90th birthday on May 6th. Joe, who lives at Rookwood, Athleague, was one of the founding members of the Roscommon Agricultural Show Society in 1970.
He was previously the chairman of the show committee and has been its president for the past number of years.
He was also one of the founding members of Macra na Feirme in Roscommon: he helped to establish a branch in Athleague in 1945.
Joe, a picture of health, is a well-known and popular community figure, with a distinguished record of voluntary involvement in the agricultural ‘field’.
Meanwhile, plans are at an advanced stage for the 46th Roscommon Agricultural Show, which will be held on August 20th.

There are also all of the usual sections in all classes.
