The third annual Tubbercurry Literary Festival is to be held on Tuesday 12th August 2008. The festival will commence at 7.30 pm in Teach Laighne. Tubbercurry has a long established literary tradition and this has been reinforced by the establishment of Leyney Writers. This group decided to organise the first literary festival in 2006 and this will be the third such event. Earlier events were generously supported by the Arts Office of Sligo County Council. The culmination of the evening will be the announcement of the winners of the three competitions that are being organised. These comprise a Short Story Competition; a poetry competition and a rhyming poetry competition. This year we have obtained the services of renowned Irish writer Dermot Healy, himself a resident of County Sligo. Dermot, who has given much encouragement and help to members of Leyney Writers, has agreed to judge the Short Story competition. Details of the rules and entry criteria for these competitions can be had from Tubbercurry Community Library or from Leyney Writers, 25 Ballina Road, Tubbercurry, County Sligo. Phone (071) 9185132.
