Short passes with Seamus Duke

* There are 33 intercounty or All-Ireland club fixtures down for decision this weekend in hurling or football and no Roscommon referee has been appointed to officiate at any of those fixtures. * It would appear that Dr. Hyde Park will now only stage two of Roscommon’s home fixtures in the National League as it is understood that even if the Cork dispute is settled the Roscommon-Cork game will also be staged in Kiltoom. A statement from the Hyde Park Committee this week stated that the pitch at  The Hyde was in fact playable for the Meath game.  * Roscommon GAA personalities were honoured at the Connacht GAA personality of the year awards last weekend in Castlebar, including Johnny Haughey, Ger Heneghan and Michael Kelly. The overall award went to Michael McNamara, the Sligo footballer whose parents Michael (a former Roscommon footballer) and Helen are both from Roscommon.  * The Tansey Cup will start the weekend of Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd March while the O’Rourke and O’Gara Cups will start the following weekend, 8th/ 9th March. * The draws for the Roscommon senior and intermediate football championships for 2008 will take place in the County Board offices on Wednesday, 20th Febuary at 7.30 pm.  * Roscommon ladies footballers take on Cavan in the Suzuki ladies national football league this Sunday at a Cavan venue. They will be hoping to add to the two points that they gained in their opening league win against Offaly two weeks ago. * It is strongly rumoured that former Roscommon player and manager Marty McDermott is back with St. Brigids and will assist with the management of the senior team in 2008, joining Peter McHugh, Sean Kilbride and Anthony Cunningham in what looks like a very formidable management team.
