Oran and St Dominic’s advance to the last four, while SFC quarter-final draw throws up a number of intriguing ties
The semi-final line-up for the Roscommon SHC has been decided following the quarter-finals played in Ballyforan on Sunday.
In the first game, Oran survived a late rally from Padraig Pearses to book their place in the last four with a 0-17 to 1-12 victory.
Oran were in control for most of the contest and led by 0-9 to 0-4 at half-time. They pushed on in the third quarter and held an eight-point advantage after 40 minutes.
Pearses, aided by a Luke Corbett goal, mounted a late comeback, but Oran had done enough to hold on and secure their place in the semi-finals. They will now face Four Roads.
In the second quarter-final, St Dominic’s produced an impressive display as they defeated Athleague by 10 points, 2-17 to 1-10.
A Naos Connaughton free, which went all the way to the net, helped Dominic’s into a 1-9 to 0-6 half-time lead.
Man of the match Mickey Joe Egan scored Dominic’s second goal in the 45th minute, while Cormac Kelly’s strike for Athleague in the 55th minute proved to be of consolation value only.
St Dominic’s will now take on Tremane in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, in the Hodson Bay Hotel SFC, goals from John McManus and Cian Connolly helped Roscommon Gaels to a comfortable 2-11 to 0-4 win over North Roscommon in their preliminary quarter-final in Strokestown on Sunday afternoon.
The SFC quarter-final draw has thrown up a number of intriguing ties. Roscommon Gaels will take on reigning champions St Brigid’s, Michael Glavey’s will face Padraig Pearses, Oran will meet Boyle, while Strokestown will play Castlerea St Kevin’s.
