Senator Maura Hopkins and Cllr. Liam Callaghan have said that works being completed at Tibohine National School are extremely positive and will enhance safety at the school.
Senator Maura Hopkins stated that the works include new paths, improved car parking facilities and a new walkway to link the school with the nearby community centre and church. She said: “Parents and teachers of children attending Tibohine National School have highlighted their serious concerns with me regarding the risk to the safety of students as they exit and enter cars before and after school. There was no structured parking which forced children to walk outside the parked cars along the edge of the busy road (L1244). These safety concerns were raised with the local engineering department in Roscommon County Council.”
Cllr. Liam Callaghan who has also been working hard on this issue strongly complimented the staff involved in Roscommon County Council for their excellent work at the school. He said: “Last year, €17,000 in CLAR funding was allocated to Tibohine National School which has allowed for the safety works to be completed.”
Concluding, Senator Hopkins stated that “parents, teachers and the Board of Management at Tibohine National School have been very proactive on securing this very positive outcome.
“Our key priority is to ensure that children can get to and from school safely along with accessing the nearby community centre and church in a safe manner. These measures will undoubtedly help to ensure that the risks are minimised.”
