Sadness at death of Michael O’Donnell

There was widespread shock in the general Roscommon town area last week at the news of the sudden death of well-known builder Michael O’Donnell of Racecourse Road.    In his early 80s Mr. O’Donnell ran a well-known building firm for many decades and was responsible for the construction of many houses and other buildings in the Roscommon town area.   Mr. O’Donnell was also a former member of the Hyde Park committee and the Roscommon Gaels GAA club. An accomplished musician he loved a session of song and dance and he was also known to sing a song or two in the right circumstances.   Mr. O’Donnell is survived by his wife Margaret and by his sons Gerry and Michael and by his daughters Marian, Bridie and Patricia, sister May Neary and by his many other relatives and friends.   The huge crowds which attended the removal and requiem Mass on Wednesday evening and Thursday last was a testament to his popularity and he will be sorely missed in the local community.   Mr. O’Donnell was buried in Ballinderry Cemetery, Fourmilehouse after 12 noon requiem Mass last Thursday afternoon at The Sacred Heart Church Roscommon.
