Ms. Sabina Higgins, wife of President Michael D. Higgins, will officially open Roscommon Drama Festival on Friday, 2nd of March.
Chairperson of Roscommon Drama Festival Committee, Caroline Egan, said that she was thrilled that Ms. Higgins had accepted the invitation to open the festival because she had a lifelong passion for drama.
Ms. Higgins was a professional actor who had tread the boards in several major productions in Dublin.
After marrying Michael D. she moved to Galway and continued her involvement in drama with a particular interest in promoting community arts.
Caroline went on to say that there is great interest in this year’s festival, which runs from Friday, 2nd of March to Saturday, 10th of March. Roscommon Arts Centre informed her that booking is very brisk with some performances sold out with three weeks to go until the start of the festival. Caroline advised patrons to contact the Arts Centre immediately to avoid disappointment.
The complete programme, which contains a very strong line-up of presentations, can be viewed on Roscommon Drama Festival website or Roscommon Arts Centre website.
The festival launch will take place in Áras an Chontae on Wednesday, 21st of February at 7 pm. Everyone is welcome and light refreshments will be served.
