Ryan takes President’s Prize in Athlone

We start out tour of Roscommon’s golf courses in Athlone this week where Michael Ryan took home the President’s Prize last weekend. Ryan finished ahead of Paul Costello and Tom Campion to claim victory. The junior prize went to Rory Smith.

  To Boyle next where Tommy King may have had his name on the cup but finished second to Paul Connolly in the battle for the last Sunday’s King Cup. The gross was won by Gary Carty with Eamon Perry finishing third overall. Meanwhile, Tish Perry won Joyce Boles’ President’s Prize the week before.

  In Castlerea, Breege Cullen won last Tuesday’s ladies’ competition ahead of Valerie Callaghan and Celia Mulligan. Lady Captain Mary Kenny took 25 golfers to Galway Golf Club last Monday where they were wined and dined. They said they even managed to play a little golf!

  The John McCarthy Golf Classic was played in Carrick Golf Club last weekend and the winners were the Roscommon and Strokestown combination captained by Sean Collins and ably assisted by Mickey McSharry, Kevin McLoughlin and John Smith. The winning Ladies combination also came from Friday with 42 points from Ann Campbell, Helen Martin, Phil McWeeney and Peggy Nolan.

  Last week’s men’s competition in Roscommon was won by Darren Burgoyne with 40 points ahead of Seamus Mulryan, Ken Kearney and Tommy Grehan. Simon Walker took home the junior prize with an impressive 40 points.

  The ladies’ competition was won by Rose Mary O’ Brien with 39 points, Joan O’Gara was second with 34 points, June Halliday came third with 34 points. The junior competition was won by Ailbhe Donnellan with 39 points.
