Ryan given U-21 role – after secret ballot

Michael Ryan of Roscommon Gaels has been appointed as the new Roscommon County U-21 football team manager. He was voted in by secret ballot at this week’s monthly meeting of Roscommon County GAA Board, which was held on Monday night.    There were a number of speakers at the meeting who questioned the method used in picking the manager and there were reservations expressed by a number of delegates at the decision of the executive in  recommending that Michael Ryan be the choice. In fact two members of the executive expressed reservations.    It was pointed out by one speaker that there may be a problem between Michael Ryan and senior team manager John Maughan as there had been differences between the two in the past. However the chairman, Michael McGuire, told the meeting that there would be no problems between them now and that the two men would have a good working relationship into the future.    A secret ballot was called to vote on the proposal and Michael Ryan was subsequently ratified. The actual result of the vote (in breakdown terms) was not made known.
