RSG launches new 16-seater accessible bus

RSG (County Roscommon Disability Support Group) Flexible Learning College in Derrane recently launched a new 16-seater accessible vehicle bus in conjunction with Disability Day 2018. The Annual Christmas Lunch for friends of RSG was held on the same day.

In a press statement, RSG said: “Reliable transport is essential for those with physical disabilities so we are delighted to present our accessible vehicle which will provide transportation to and from Derrane where there are many ongoing activities, QQI training and Independent Living Skills programmes as well as horticulture, music, arts and computers”.

Liz Doyle cut the ribbon to formally launch the bus and the RSG singing group ‘Guess Who’s Back’ provided music. ‘Guess Who’s Back’ are invited to perform in many places and will no doubt be taking many trips to gigs on the bus!

RSG added: “We would like to thank ‘Music Network’ and the MS Society (Roscommon branch) for all their support and friendship.

“The increased demand for our training, Independent Living Programme and activities in RSG means replacing and modernising our transport fleet is a challenge we work hard to meet in order to provide a lifeline without which people would be isolated and confined to their homes.

“We are growing…and working hard to demonstrate our accessibility and inclusiveness. We recognise that social inclusion is vital so we have embraced a new initiative called New Directions, which states that 12 supports should be available to people using services…the idea is that people can live their lives in accordance with their individual hopes, needs and wishes.

“We are also a HSE funded Home Care Services for Older People and PA services for people with disabilities in the community. This is a growing business. We have now branched into Mayo as we have formed a consortium with GCIL in Galway under the name Care Group West. We are always looking for Care Workers so this is where RSG Flexible Learning College is a QQI accredited training provider, which delivers Healthcare Support Modules to those who are seeking to enhance their career opportunities”.
