Rossies prepare for stiffer NUIG test

FBD League Round 2 preview Roscommon v NUIG on Sunday in Ballyforan at 2 pm.

Roscommon footballers can expect a very different challenge from NUIG than the one they got from Sligo IT last Sunday when the sides meet in round two of the FBD league on Sunday. NUIG defeated a shadow Mayo team in Castlebar on Sunday last and that result will give them confidence as they prepare to play Roscommon.

Roscommon team manager Kevin McStay says that Roscommon will be much changed from last Sunday as there are a number of Roscommon players playing with their colleges and the selectors will continue their search for their best team ahead of the league campaign in February.

Diarmuid Murtagh will be almost certainly ruled out after sustaining a hamstring injury last Sunday in Boyle.

However, Seanie McDermott, Cathal Compton, Ciaran Cafferky, Brian Murtagh, Conor Devaney and Fintan Cregg are expected to return to the team.

NUIG are managed by former Mayo star Maurice Sheridan and they have a number of very impressive performers on their side.

Galway stars Michael Daly and Damien Comer will spearhead a strong looking attack and Adam Gallagher, a former Mayo underage star, scored a total of nine points last Sunday in a Man of the Match display.

Roscommon learned nothing from their opening rout of Sligo IT last Sunday but this promises to be a far more competitive encounter and it will be interesting to see who mans the all-important central positions on Sunday in Ballyforan.
