Rossies book final spot with Sligo demolition!

TG4 Connacht Ladies IFC Semi-Final

Roscommon 3-21 Sligo 0-3

The Roscommon Ladies footballers are through to the Connacht Intermediate Football Championship Final following a convincing win over Sligo at Kiltoom last Sunday.

Leading by 3-11 to 0-3 at half-time, thanks to wonder goals from Laura Fleming (2) and Lisa O’Rourke, Ollie Lennon’s charges never looked in danger and they extended their lead further after the interval.

Roscommon had started in blistering fashion and were off the mark within seconds as Rebecca Finan opened the scoring. Leah Duffy replied for Sligo before points from Lauren Shanagher, Aisling Hanly, Rebecca Finan (3), and goals from Fleming and O’Rourke had the Rossies firmly in control by the first water break (2-7 to 0-1).

Finan and Laura Fleming then increased the lead in the second quarter with Fleming’s second goal ending the game as a contest. Further points from Aisling Hanly, Finan, and Fleming gave the Rossies a seventeen-point lead at the interval.

Sligo did show signs of improvement early in the second half and Laura Foley forced a fine save from Helena Cummins as Roscommon struggled to get out of their own half.

The visitors were unable to capitalise on this, however, and Finan relieved the pressure with her third free of the day. Aisling Hanly scored a peach from play as Roscommon took total control of the fixture.

Further points from Finan, Louise Brady and Ellen Irwin were to follow as Lennon’s side booked their final place in style.
