This year’s annual National Community Radio Day will be broadcast from the studios of RosFM in Roscommon Town on Friday, June 19th.
This special broadcast will double as a celebration of the Roscommon community station recently being granted a new 10-year licence.
There will be various special programmes on the day, with the broadcast being shared on all 21 community radio stations around the country (between 9 am and 4 pm). National Community Radio Day aims to highlight the community radio service throughout the country.
At 12.30 pm on the day, Martina Earley, CEO of Roscommon LEADER Partnership, Bernie Kearney (Chairperson, RosFM), Station Manager David Creighton, RosFM volunteers and guests will formally acknowledge and celebrate the granting of the station’s 10-year licence, confirmed by Coimisiún na Meán last December. A fundraising initiative will also be announced.
Bernie Kearney says that it will be a big occasion for the station.
“We are delighted that we have secured the licence to provide a community radio service in the Roscommon Town area for the next 10 years. A lot of people put a lot of hard work into the application and thankfully it has been successful.
“The station is mainly run by volunteers and we are so thankful to the effort they put in on an ongoing basis. We are inviting members of the public along on the day (June 19th).
“It is a great honour for us to be hosting the National Community Radio Day this year. It will be a chance to highlight all the great work that is being done at the station since we opened 22 years ago and indeed at all the other stations around the country” he concluded.
RosFM has been broadcasting in the Roscommon Town area since 2004. The studios are located at The Cube building on the Lanesborough Road. The manager of the station is David Creighton. There are upwards of 30 volunteers working at the station which broadcasts on 94.6 FM from Monday to Friday (9 am to 7 pm).
The National Community Radio Day is organised by CRAOL (Community Radio Forum of Ireland) which is the umbrella organisation that represents community radio stations nationwide.
