One of the highlights of the Strokestown Show weekend is the Rose of the Show competition which is its third year running at the event. This year there are twenty girls participating in the competition, representing many different local businesses, sports clubs and voluntary organisations within the locality. The event has been revamped for this year’s festival in order to make it more prestigious and attractive for the girls involved. The girls will be interviewed at the Show Dance on the Saturday night of the show weekend before facing further interviewing from the competition judges the following day – Lisa Fitzpatrick of TV3, Grainne Fox who is the current Longford Rose and the Roscommon Rose Yvonne Devine. On Sunday, they will be presented to the audience attending the show at 3 pm by M.C. for the day Darragh Kelly, where the winner of the Rose of Strokestown Show will be revealed shortly afterwards. The winner will go forward to compete in the Rose of Roscommon competition and could ultimately end up participating in the pinnacle of such festivals – the Rose of Tralee. One of the organisers of the event, Josephine Rogers has high hopes that this year will be even more successful than ever before. ‘This is the third year of the competition and it has really gone from strength to strength. We have made a few alterations to the event from previous years to make it more professional and prestigious for the girls’. The committee would like to thank all the businesses, clubs and organisations for their kind sponsorship of the girls and to Calla Floral Design, the overall sponsors of the event for their financial backing and support. For any further information about the event, you can contact Elma Kelly, Angela Rogers or Josephine Rogers who will be happy to help with any queries you may have.
