Roscommon’s Noel Fahey takes over as Ambassador to Vatican on Saturday

Roscommon town native Noel Fahey spoke exclusively to the Roscommon People this week as he prepares to formally take up his new post as Irish Ambassador to The Vatican on Saturday.    Mr. Fahey, who has been Irish Ambassador to the United States of America for the past five years, has been settling into his new role in Rome over the past number of days. On Saturday next the latest exciting phase in his career will formally begin when Noel (60) presents his credentials to Pope Benedict.    Speaking to the Roscommon People on Wednesday, Mr. Fahey said that he was very much looking forward to Saturday’s formalities and what will be his first meeting with the new Pope.    Admitting that he will miss Washington – ‘anyone who has lived in the U.S. would miss it’ – Mr. Fahey said that he was very excited about the challenging new role he has been asked to fill.    ‘I think The Vatican will be very different from Washington, obviously.
