Roscommon’s culture and heritage to take centre stage in new events programme

King House in Boyle will host an Irish and Polish collaboration of music and song on Saturday, September 26 at 6 pm.

The performance will feature Simon Morgan and the Richie Buckley Quartet alongside the Emil Miszk Trio from Gdańsk, bringing Irish and Polish jazz and folk influences together.

Other events planned across Roscommon include:

  • Ukrainian Soul: European Neighbours: A participatory visual-art project running at the Trinity Arts Centre in Castlerea from October to December. Participants will work together to create a large illustrated map exploring everyday life, language, belonging and shared European values.
  • Strokestown Tradfest: Irish traditional music and dance will meet wider European folk traditions at events in Strokestown Park and venues across the town from October 9–11.
  • Roscommon International Film Festival: European, Irish and Irish-language films will be screened at Roscommon Arts Centre on October 23 and 24. A specially curated Irish-language film programme will be followed by a Gaeilge question-and-answer session with participating filmmakers.
  • The History of Samhain: Enchanted Croí Theatre will use puppetry, verse and song to bring the ancient traditions of Samhain to life at Elphin Windmill later in October.

The theatrical storytelling event will introduce audiences to figures and creatures from Irish mythology, including the Dearg Due, banshees, ghosts, fairies and Celtic deities of the Underworld.

Roscommon’s programme will conclude on December 5 and 6 with an Enchanted Christmas Trail at Loughnaneane Park.

The event will feature work produced through a countywide schools and artists’ lantern project, culminating in a European-themed lantern trail during the Roscommon Christmas Festival.
