The wonder of writing A new course entitled ‘The Wonder of Writing’ starts next Thursday, 6th March at Vita House. This enjoyable, relaxing course is a place where you can learn simple ways to tune into the art of writing as a tool for self-discovery or healing or develop this creative art as a wonderful pastime.  Recent deaths Sympathy is offered to the bereaved family and friends of the following: Kathleen Beirne, Cloonbrackna Court and Ballymacurley; Nellie McCulloch, Stranraer, Scotland, sister of June Kennedy, Beechgrove; Thomas Brennan, Kilteevan; Joe Finn, who died in England, late of Abbey Street, Roscommon. Pioneers Rosary and heroic offering will be said during exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on Friday 7th March from 7.30 to 8 pm. Applications for membership of the Pioneer Association will be taken after Mass in St. Coman’s Club followed by Pioneer Council Meeting. Daffodil Day An appeal is being made to the public for the donation of fresh daffodils which can be delivered to the Daffodil Day depot, Unit 1 Castle View, at the rear of Stone Court, on Thursday 6th March, (10 am – 6 pm). Volunteers are required to sell daffodils and pins on the street on 7th March. Niall Mellon Trust build homes for some of Africa’s poorest. If you are interested, come along to Volunteer Information Event in Gleeson’s Townhouse, Roscommon on Saturday 8th March from 3 – 6 p.m.  Refreshments served. Tradespeople eagerly sought for this year include blocklayers, plasterers, carpenters, plumbers, electricians and painters etc.  Fairtrade town Roscommon Town has just been awarded Fairtrade status. Thank you to all who helped achieve this landmark. Please continue to purchase fair-trade products to help people of the third world in a practical way. Wedding bells Congratulations to Bruna Cristina de Araujo and Ubiracy Alves Barros who were recently married in the Sacred Heart Church. Special Olymcpics Club Roscommon Special Olympics Bowling Club was launched recently and continues every Thursday at 8 pm at The Bowling Alley, Lanesboro Road. If you know anyone with a learning disability in your community who may be interested in joining Special Olympics Ireland, please encourage them to join. Tae Kwon Do news Tae kwon do (the Korean art of self defence) continues training. New members are now being enrolled on Monday nights. Gaels registration Roscommon Gaels GAA club is holding a registration night for U14, U16 and minor girls and boys at the Hyde Centre on Saturday 8th March at 7 pm. New members welcome. Parents are urged to come along too. Refreshments will be served. Special guest speaker Fergal O’Donnell. Registration night for younger boys and girls in two weeks’ time.
