The Roscommon Town Main Drainage Scheme is expected to be completed in early 2023, according to the latest update from Irish Water this week.
Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council, Cllr. Joe Murphy said the project was a “credit to everyone involved”.
“The project is moving along quickly and with little disruption to traffic. The benefits of these works in terms of the development of Roscommon town are immense – the capacity increase in the wastewater network will support housing and commercial development. People want to live and work in their own communities and this project is supporting the growth of the town,” Cllr. Murphy said.
The complex scheme includes more than 7kms of new sewer infrastructure, new and upgraded pumping stations and storm water overflows. The project has also seen the tunnelling of a pipe under Roscommon’s railway line and River Jiggy.
Irish Water’s Regional Delivery Lead, Eunan Canavan, said the project will be completed in 2023.
