Roscommon to meet Sligo in final

National Hurling League Div. 3 semi-final Roscommon         1-22 Tyrone                  1-8 There may only have been one point in it when the teams met earlier in the Division 3 league campaign but Roscommon had no difficulty in coasting past a very disappointing Tyrone side in this very one-sided semi-final played in beautiful weather conditions but before a very  meagre attendance at Breffni Park last Sunday.   This win means that Roscommon will now play Sligo in the Division Three League final on Sunday week at a venue yet to be announced.   After conceding two points to the Tyrone men at the start of the game Roscommon completely dominated the exchanges. In the 11th minute Roscommon got their goal when Mervyn Connaughton’s sideline cut went all the way to the Tyrone net and by half-time Roscommon were coasting, leading by 1-12 to 0-4.   Tyrone did improve during the course of the second half but it was all over by then and Roscommon qualified for the final in a very facile manner.   A feature of the Roscommon win was the return to the county colours of the experienced Colm Kelly who came on as a sub and he played well on his return. Others to do well were Noel Cunniffe, Michael Kelly, Liam Murray, Shane Sweeney and Mervyn Connaughton who was the best player on view.   Team manager David McConn will be happy to have reached the Division 3 league final and he will be hoping that the team can get a bit of silverware for the trophy cabinet before the championship season begins.
