Thomas and Anne Gormley from Elphin, County Roscommon, have been recognised for their outstanding milk quality, receiving the Excellence in Udder Health Award at Aurivo’s 19th Annual Milk Quality Awards, highlighting their excellence in udder health management and milk quality standards.
Farming 140 acres, the Gormleys currently milk 50 crossbred cows, with plans to expand their herd in the coming years. The farm, which has been in the family for over three generations, traditionally operated as a sheep and suckler enterprise before transitioning to dairying as part of its ongoing development.
Their success is driven by a focus on herd health and consistent management practices. The enterprise is run by Thomas and Anne, with support from their son Cathal, who plays an active role in the day-to-day operation.
The awards also highlighted new entrants to the sector, with Galway farmer David Hanley named Best New Entrant. His achievement underscores the continued growth of dairying across the west, with counties like Roscommon seeing increasing interest from those entering the sector.
Held on April 29th, Aurivo’s 19th Annual Milk Quality Awards recognised the outstanding commitment and performance of its dairy suppliers, celebrating excellence across key areas including milk solids, sustainability, SCC count and exceptional animal welfare standards throughout 2025.
