Roscommon-based traditional band Gatehouse have just released a new CD titled Tús Nua. Of Tús Nua, internationally renowned fiddler Martin Hayes says: “This recording proves that traditional music can be continually fresh and alive without being flashy or over produced. This CD is beautifully arranged and recorded. Everything happening here is authentic.”
The Gatehouse line-up consists of John McEvoy on fiddle, viola and piano, John Wynne on flutes and whistles, Rachel Garvey on vocals and Jacinta McEvoy on guitar and concertina.
Gatehouse have had been gigging since 2014, before recording the CD in Belfast earlier this year. Last year Gatehouse performed live on Fleadh TV at Fleadh Cheoil Na hEireann in Sligo and they have also shared the stage with Christy Moore. Tús Nua is in the Gael Linn label and can be purchased in all good record shops.
Gatehouse will perform at Roscommon Arts Centre on Friday, September 2nd and in The Pillar House, Ballinasloe on Sunday, September 11th as part of the Larry Reynolds Irish music and heritage festival.
