Roscommon Rose to host fun run in aid of Mayo-Roscommon Hospice

Event in memory of beloved aunt

Roscommon Rose Bernie Ryan will host a 5k fun run and walk this Saturday in Roscommon town in aid of Mayo-Roscommon Hospice and in memory of her beloved aunt who passed away following illness recently.

Ahead of representing the county at the Rose of Tralee Festival later this month, the 30-year-old nurse is working with the Roscommon Harriers to stage this weekend’s Hospice fundraiser in memory of Helen O’Keeffe, who sadly passed away in Roscommon University Hospital on Thursday, July 21st.

Commenting on the event this week, Bernie said: “Helen was an incredible person to all who knew her, and a huge supporter of all things Roscommon. She was an amazing mother, wife, auntie, sister and friend and was always there to help others. Now, it’s our turn to honour her memory and give something back.

“I want to take this opportunity on behalf of the O’Keeffe family to show support for Roscommon Hospital, especially St. Bridget’s Palliative Care for their amazing care and support in looking after Helen in her final days”.

Bernie says she will also be taking part in the Roscommon Half Marathon on September 10th as well as the Berlin Marathon on September 25th in order to raise funds for this very worthy cause.

A GoFundMe page ‘Running For Helen’ has been set up and €2,785 has been raised so far.

“I would like to thank Roscommon Harriers and Hannon’s Hotel for their support in organising the run this Saturday (August 6th) and hope to see you all there,” Bernie concluded.

The 5km fun run and walk takes place at 10 am this Saturday from Hannon’s Hotel, Roscommon town. Donations will be accepted on the day or through the GoFundMe page.
