Roscommon resident appointed as programme manager at See Her Elected

Jill Mellor has been elected as the new programme manager at See Her Elected.

See Her Elected has announced the appointment of a new programme manager, with Jill Mellor, who lives in Roscommon, to take up the role, after Dr Michelle Maher retired from the post.

See Her Elected works to remove barriers to women’s participation in politics across rural Ireland by providing training, support and networks for women who want to influence decision-making in their local communities.

CEO of Longford Women’s Link Tara Farrell said she is delighted to welcome Jill as the new Manager of the SHE Project.

“Jill brings a wealth of experience and insight from her work in the political world, along with a strong passion for making a positive difference in the community. We are thrilled to have her join the team and look forward to the energy and experience she will bring to SHE.”

Jill, who has a background in journalism, law, politics, and special needs and disability advocacy, said she is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“I am honoured to take up the role of Manager with See Her Elected. Women play a vital role in the life of rural Ireland and it is vital that women’s voices are represented where decisions about our communities are made. I am looking forward to bringing my political experience to this role in encouraging and supporting women to seek election to local authorities.”

Jill has BAs in journalism and law, and is finishing an MA in comparative criminology and criminal justice.

She worked in journalism provincially, at the Roscommon Champion and also nationally as a freelancer, before taking up position as a Parliamentary Advisor to Denis Naughten TD from 2007-2025.

Jill also worked with Dyspraxia/DCD Ireland 2025-2026 as Support & Engagement Liaison working on the roll out of a new occupational therapy programme for children with Dyspraxia/DCD as part of a waiting list initiative.

Jill is a mum of two and an avid Manchester City fan. She is married to a farmer and lives in rural Ireland, in Roscommon.
