Roscommon projects are progressing through the application process for the latest €20 million Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme.
The 2026/2027 scheme provides funding for walking and cycling routes, blueways, water trails, mountain access routes, bridleways and other outdoor recreation amenities.
Funding of up to €40,000 is available under Measure 1, while medium-scale projects can receive up to €200,000 and major strategic projects can secure grants of up to €500,000. A separate Project Development Measure supports the preparation of larger future projects.
Roscommon County Council invited expressions of interest from local groups earlier this summer, with the local deadline closing on August 7th. Shortlisted proposals are now being developed into applications for submission to the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.
The national deadline for local authorities to submit Measure 1 and Project Development applications is September 25th. Measure 2 and Measure 3 applications can be submitted until December 15th.
