This year’s County Roscommon Ploughing Championships will take place on the farm of Eamon Leonard, Ardmullen, Kiltoom on Sunday, 6th April. The association has experienced phenomenal success with this event in recent years and hopes to build on this by attracting a wide-ranging selection of trade stands and crafts people to exhibit once again. The chairman of Roscommon Ploughing Association, Padraig Nolan urged businesses, craftspeople and plough people to get involved in this year’s County Ploughing Championships. The event has traditionally attracted a number of agricultural based trade stands and exhibitors who can demonstrate their trade while also marketing their products to the large crowds that generally attend. Last year over 4,000 people attended the Ploughing Championships in Rahara on the farm of Sean Connaughton and we are expecting this year’s event to be just as popular. Activities aimed at children in particular will enable us to ensure that this event continues its tradition of being a family oriented day out. All the ploughing classes will take place on the day along with sheep dog trials, a craft village, tug-o-way, model farm, vintage tractor and machinery display. The next meeting in Kiltoom will be held on Tuesday night, 4th March in St. Brigid’s GAA Clubhouse at 9 pm. All are welcome to attend.
