Five Roscommon players featured in the Interprovincial series semi-finals in football at the weekend in Ballybofey but neither of the two Roscommon hurlers on the Connacht panel were used during the course of their semi-final. In the hurling game, Connacht beat Ulster by 1-28 to 4-13 in a high-scoring encounter and the Connacht team and subs that took part in that game were all from Galway. Neither Roscommon player Mchael Kelly of Four Roads, who didn’t travel, or Gerry Fallon of Oran were used during the game. Fallon will be part of the Connacht panel who play in the final in Croke Park this weekend. In the football encounter, Ulster beat Connacht by three points, 1-15 to 2-9. Cathal Cregg and Karol Mannion started in the full-forward line for Connacht, who led by 2-5 to 0-8 at half-time. In the second half, manager John O’Mahony brought on Ger Heneghan, Frankie Dolan and Michael Finneran as substitutes. In fact Frankie Dolan had a chance to level the match for Connacht late on when he was through on goal but a great block from newly-crowned All-Star full-back Kevin McCloy saved the day for the home side.
