“There was an electric trade for weanling bulls with averages of €2.66 up to €3.57 per kilo and 92% clearance rate of lots. While exporters were active, farmers and agents were the more dominant bidders. There was also a good trade for weanling heifers with prices averaging from €2.52 per kilo up to €3.48 per kilo.
“The trade for good quality heifers was on par to previous week while the lesser quality lots were slightly back. Heifers averaged from €2.27 per kilo up to €2.79 per kilo. There was a good demand from the large attendance of customers resulting in the majority of lots getting sold. The number of bullocks were smaller however there was a solid trade with lots fetching from €2.17 up to €2.86 per kilo and a 97% clearance of lots.
“There was also a good number of dry cows on offer with a 99% of lots sold averaging from €1.58 up to €2 per kilo. Special sale of bullocks today (Friday 6th) at 11 am with 115 pens on offer as well as heifers and dry cows.
“There will also be a Special Sale of Heifers on Friday, October 13th at 11 am as well as bullocks and dry cows. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm on Thursday, October 5th.”

“There were 900 cattle on offer at our Annual Continental Heifer Show and Sale and Belgian Blue Weanling Show and Sale. Thursday witnessed a large turnout of stock with some top quality lots presented in the show sections. Overall trade was maintained for the top quality lots but plainer type stock were harder sold this week.
“Cows with calves at foot made from €840 to €1,860 per head. Springer cows made form €1,000 to €1,550 per head. There were bigger numbers of runners on sale this week with lots making from €280 to €845 for continental lots.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (Thursday, 5th) when we hold our Annual Show and Sale of Aberdeen Angus Heifers. Saturday weanling sales commence this Saturday (7th).”
