“There was another good entry of excellent quality stock on offer at last Friday’s sale. There was a flying trade for bullocks with a 97% clearance of lots and prices averaging from €2.27 per kilo up to €3.10 per kilo. There was a steady trade for heifers with quality lots fetching good prices while it was more difficult to sell lesser quality lots. Prices for heifers ranged from an average of €2.19 up to €2.63per kilo. There was a large entry of dry cows on offer with lots averaging from €1.56 per kilo up to €2.02 per kilo.
“This Friday (24th) we will have a special sale of heifers with 40 pens on offer as well as bullocks and dry cows. Sales commence at 11 am and cattle must be penned by 10 am. On Friday (December 1st) we will have the usual sale of bullocks, heifers and dry cows. A date for your diary is Friday, December 8th when we will host our Christmas Cracker sale for heifers and bullocks and dry cows. Bookings for both events are accepted up to 5 pm on Thursday, November 30th.”

“There were 750 cattle on offer this week as numbers remain high for this time of year. Trade for all good quality stores remain firm while plainer quality stock remains harder sold. The cow trade remains strong with bigger numbers on offer while the weanling trade reported good clearances with the top quality lots on par with last week. Cows with calves at foot made form €1080 to €1860 per head.
“Springers made from €960 to €1450 per head. Hereford and Angus cross runners made from €350 to €500 with continental lots making up to €805.
“There were 280 bullocks on offer at our recent sale, making from €300 to €1145 with their weight and an average of €555 over paid. The trade was similar to the previous week with good demand for the quality store bullocks with plainer lots unchanged and the forward bullock were improved in price this week with better demand on offer.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (Thursday) with our usual sale of heifers, cows, calves, runners and weanlings.”
