“There were good numbers on offer at last Friday’s sale. There was an excellent demand for bullocks with averages of €2.57 per kilo up to €3.36 per kilo with a super Char X bullock weighing 920kgs fetching €2250 or €1330 over its weight. There was also a lively trade for heifers with lots making from €2.36 per kilo up to €2.75 per kilo.
“Once again this week there was a large entry of dry cows with prices ranging from €1.83 per kilo up to €2.37 per kilo. There was a good demand for all stock with farmers and agents very active.
“The mart will host a special sale of heifers this Friday (11th) at 11 am. There will be 50 pens on offer as well as bullocks and dry cows. There will also be mid-May special sale of bullocks on Friday, May 18th at 11 am. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm today (Thursday 10th).
“There will also be 140 Simmental X Breeding Heifers availble at 5 pm on the day with viewing from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm and a show of 25 Pedigree Simmental Bulls at 6 pm. Sale at 8 pm”.

“Large numbers of stock presented for sale last week and grass buyers who had held off sourcing stock due to weather conditions were very active with the better quality stores showing price improvement.
“Heifers in particular were a lively trade while the weanling trade with strong export demand reported good clearances. The dry cow trade reported strong demand again last week while the breeding stock and calf trade remained firm.
“Cows with calves at foot ranged in prices from €1075 to €2010 per head. Springers ranged in price from €1050 to €1400 per head.
“Angus and Hereford cross calves ranged in price from €130 to €300. Dairy cross types made from €20 to €140 with continentals making up to €455. Runners made form €380 to €685 per head.
“There were 200 bullocks on offer on April 30th, making from €300 to €1100 over their weight with an average price of €678 over paid. Trade remains strong especially for the forward quality stores.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (Thursday) with our sale of heifers, cows, calves/runners and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am”.
