“There were increased numbers on offer at last week’s weanling sale (Tuesday 20th). There was a good demand for bull weanlings with prices ranging from €2.52 per kilo up to €3.47 per kilo.
“The trade for weanling heifers was lively with lots fetching from €2.66 per kilo up to €3.42 per head.
“There were also good numbers on offer at last Friday’s cattle sale with strong trade for bullocks and prices ranging from an average from €2.43 up to €3.57 per kilo.
“There was an improved trade for heifers with lots fetching from an average of €2.39 per kilo up to €2.90 per kilo. There was keen demand for both bullocks and heifers with an excellent clearance of lots.
“Prices for dry cows ranged from €1.76 up to €2.07 per kilo. No Sale this Friday, March 30th – Good Friday. Special sale of bullocks on Friday, April 6th and special sale for breeding heifers. Bookings accepted up to 5 pm this Thursday (29th).
“Meanwhile, there was a larger entry of sheep at last Wednesday’s sale (21st). There was a similar trade for hoggets with prices as high as €140. The trade for cast ewes was on a par to the previous week with prices ranging from €77.5 to €136.
“There were plenty of ewes with lambs at foot and a brisk trade. Sales continue each Wednesday at 11 am with a sheep scanning service between 9 am and 10 am”.

“There was a large turnout of stock again this week and very strong trade reported from both the bull and heifer weanling rings. Demand for quality stores has strengthened again this week with increased farmer activity which resulted in improved prices.
“Calves and breeding stock reported strong demand also this week with renewed interest in the sucklers. While the dry cow trade is also reporting strong prices this week with the heifer trade similar to last week.
“Cows with calves at foot made from €1400 to €1700 per head, while the springers made from €950 to €1500 per head. Dairy cross calves made from €5 to €85 with better quality Friesian bulls made from €40 to €115 per head. AA cross made from €150 to €300 with continental types making up to €540 per head.
“Our bullock sale resumed on Monday, March 19th with 130 bullocks on offer, prices ranged from €300 to €960 over their weight an average of €652 over paid. A strong trade was reported also with a good attendance of customers present.
“Sales continue at Castlerea Mart today (29th) with our sale of heifers, cows, calves/runners and weanlings. All sales commence at 11 am”.
